Chelsea FC makes £48m bid for Liverpool target Lavia

Southampton are set to turn down Chelsea’s bid but it is close to their £50m valuation; Lavia has four years left on his Southampton contract after joining from Man City last summer; Liverpool had third bid, understood to be in the region of £45m, rejected earlier this week

Chelsea and Liverpool are going head-to-head for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Southampton are believed to have rejected Chelsea’s £48million bid for Romeo Lavia as they continue to demand £50m for the Belgian. Liverpool have already made three offers for the 19-year-old maestro but still, the Reds are yet to strike an agreement with the Saints hierarchy.

That said, it appears we are now approaching the endgame as Chelsea and Liverpool, who square off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in their Premier League opener, continue to go head-to-head for both Lavia and Moises Caicedo.

That’s because Southampton are holding firm on their £50m valuation and won’t sanction Lavia’s exit until that figure is met.

Liverpool’s latest offer was worth £45 meaning they are still some £5m away from matching Southampton’s asking price.

EPL: Tottenham boost European slot over Wolves win: Photos.

Tottenham boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League with a comfortable Premier League win over Wolves.

Spurs, who are five points adrift of a top-four place, leapfrog West Ham into sixth on goal difference, with Everton, who play later on Sunday, three points further back.

It was a deserved victory for the hosts who hit the woodwork three times after creating a number of excellent chances.

Harry Kane, who saw an early effort cannon off the left-hand post, set Spurs on their way, calmly slotting in the opener from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s superb pass on the stroke of half-time.

While Wolves carried a threat on the break they were forced to ride their luck at times, with Kane and Dele Alli both hitting the right-hand post within seconds of each other.

And Hojbjerg unsurprisingly doubled Spurs’ advantage, reacting first after Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio had parried a Gareth Bale effort to slide the ball into the bottom right corner.

Romain Saiss, Adama Traore and Fabio Silva all had good opportunities to reply for the visitors, but not for the first time this season it was a frustrating day in front of goal for Wolves, who remain 12th in the table.

Ben Chilwell: Chelsea want to sign Leicester left-back this summer

Ben Chilwell has made 23 Premier League appearances for Leicester this term

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell has been identified by Chelsea as the club’s No 1 left-back target this summer.
Chilwell has four years left on his contract and Leicester are under no pressure to sell the 23-year-old.

The defender has established himself as England’s first-choice left-back since making his international debut against Switzerland in September 2018.
Convincing Leicester to sell him will not be easy. They have shown in the past that they will not be bullied or sell their players cheaply.
The Foxes are also five points and one place above Chelsea in third in the Premier League table, and are on course for Champions League qualification.

Frank Lampard has wanted to sign a left-back ever since he became Chelsea manager last summer. The club are also willing to listen to offers for Emerson and Marcos Alonso.

Alan McInally believes RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner will be a good fit at Chelsea and says the player’s versatility will make him a huge asset at Stamford Bridge
While other clubs have been cutting their transfer budgets, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to continue to back Lampard when it comes to signing the right new players during this summer’s transfer window.

Breast cancer: Oncologist makes breakthrough in Edo

A consultant radiation oncologist, Dr Oludare Adeyemi of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) yesterday said he achieved a breakthrough in breast cancer when he recently treated a breast cancer patient without mastectomy (the process of removing the breast because of cancer). He described the treatment as microseed treatment which requires using radioactive seeds. In a chat with newsmen, he also advised women to go for regular screening for breast cancer in order to detect the disease early. He said this new procedure was first performed in Canada for about two years, now been practised in a few places in the USA but that he was the first in Africa.

“This Microseeds treatment is the first in the whole of Africa. It has come to Africa through Nigeria,” he said adding that the procedure conserves a breast, adding that conserving a breast is vital for cosmetic reasons. Adeyemi said that Microseeds treatment takes a day procedure, unlike the convention radiotherapy that takes four weeks to be completed.”The procedure is done when Microseeds are placed in the tumour bed under ultrasound-guided” but “it must be emphasized that Microseeds Treatment procedure is only appropriate for now, for early breast cancer”. Dr Adeyemi said the factors that cause breast cancer are main hormonal factors, age, environmental factors and lifestyle. He said the symptoms of breast cancer include: breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue, Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast, Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling. He said breast cancer can be prevented if women familiarise with their breasts through breast self-examination and awareness, exercise most days of the week, maintain a healthy weight and choose a healthy diet.

Neville criticise Fred, Pereira, tells Solskjaer to sign three experienced players in January

Former Manchester United star, Gary Neville has slammed midfielders, Fred and Andreas Pereira following their display in the Red Devils’ 3-3 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday.

He also urged Man United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign three experienced players in the January transfer window.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to go and spend the club’s money in January for himself. He has to go and spend the club’s money on two or three experienced players – he must demand it,” Neville said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“Those young lads, he’s not gonna be there to see the fruits of the labour that he’s putting in, the foundations that he’s lying because there’s a lot of good young players out on that pitch.

“But unless they get the players in and around them quickly, they’ll not see the standard and they won’t have the maturity.

Neville added: “Fred and Pereira is not a midfield for a mid-table club, let alone one of the top spending clubs in Europe. “They have got injury problems and other issues in midfield.”
